ATLANTA- May 12, 2009– Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern Railroad Corporation (DM&E) is the latest and largest Short Line Railroad to join Atlanta-based e-VERIFILE’s new service, e-RAILSAFE SHORTLINE . The new service is a web-based solution that assists Short Line and Regional Railroad operators with routine workforce safety and security management. DM&E is a part of the Canadian Pacific (CP) Family of railroads. CP is a longstanding participant of the successful e-RAILSAFE program which serves the 7 major railroads operating in the United States, as well as thousands of railrooad contractor personnel.
ERS-ShortLine is based on the e-RAILSAFE Class 1 service, but is designed exclusively for short line operators like DM&E. The service streamlines personnel screening, compliance awareness and testing, and workplace credentialing via Compliance Programs that the short line can create on the system. Employees and Contractors that are required to participate, subscribe to ERS-ShortLine, enroll in the appropriate program and complete the required tasks to determine their eligibility to access DM&E worksites and facilities.
No additional software or equipment is required and the system can be securely accessed from any PC, anywhere at any time. DM&E and its contractors will be able to manage the entire process from one, easy-to-use, web-based platform at ers-shortline.com.
DM&E is expected to utilize the e-RAILSAFE ShortLine (ERS-ShortLine) service across it footprint which includes Iowa, Chicago and Eastern Railroad (IC&E), and encompasses over 2,500 miles of track serving over 200 communities across eight states. The railroad manages over 7,000 rail cars and operates nearly 200 locomotives. DM&E joins a growing list of participating railroads which includes Finger Lakes Railway (FGLK) of New York, New England-based Pinsly Railroad Company, and Chicago’s Iowa Pacific Holdings Inc. (IPH).
“e-VERIFILE has had a great working relationship with CP on the e-RAILSAFE program”, says Devon Wijesinghe, e-VERIFILE’s Chief Strategy Officer. “It is because of this relationship that we look forward to working with a member of the CP family by implementing ERS-ShortLine for DM&E,” Wijesinghe concluded.
